Nicole wishes for what many women wish for: she wants to fall in love, get married, and one day start a family. But for her, these normal desires are a bit more difficult to achieve, as she is affected by Down syndrome. Initially, her childhood friend Nick and she promised to marry one day, but the pressure on the now fifteen-year-old outsider to finally be cool is getting in the way of a closer relationship between the two. Nicole, who sees more in him, eventually gives him what he secretly longs for: unconditional love. However, when she becomes pregnant shortly after by Nick, the otherwise upheld tolerance of their families is noticeably strained. While drastic measures such as sterilization and abortion are considered, a battle for stubborn views and for Nicole´s right to self-determination begins.
